The Manifesto for Effective Management of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

We are a community of project management experts and leaders who are experienced in delivering results. As seasoned professionals, we know that there are three key elements to achieving the successful completion of projects that all Americans want and our country desperately needs. We urge that these elements be part of all projects launched through The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
  1. Systemic use of a set of proven best practices for project selection, planning, budgeting, oversight, and reporting.
  2. Recruitment of experienced, responsible project leaders who are accountable to the American people for project results.
  3. Selection of project sponsors at Federal, State, County, City and multi-authority levels that ensure strategically sound, transparent accountability at every level.
This combination of enlightened leadership and the discipline of modern project management will allow Americans to work together efficiently to meet our country's goals.

We have all too often seen money, time and effort wasted on large public projects. It will happen again unless proven modern project management principles and expertise is used to provide the discipline, controls and accountability needed to ensure that these new projects are successful.

You can join us in this movement by:
  1. Becoming a Signatory to this PM Manifesto for Project Management in Government (see the Add Yourself link in the menu above).
  2. Contacting your Senators and Congressperson and insisting that these elements be part of any project that is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
If you would like more information about our movement and the value that project management can bring to the intelligent effective management of our national recovery and reinvestment, please explore the links and pages of this website.

It’s our money and our time –– and we need to spend them both wisely. Together, we can make a difference this time.

Accreditation 1 Reply

It would be a good idea if the manifesto called for public sector projects to be run by project managers who have been accredited by one of the international accreditation bodies such as: PMI, IPMA...

Portfolio Management for America's Largest Portfolio

Doing things right with effective Program and Project Management is pointless if we are doing the wrong things due to poor Portfolio Management.

This is one reason why it is so important to support pending legislation HR 1207, which has gained the support of a majority in the House of Representatives and a large number in the Senate.

During the recent economic crisis, the Fed has poured trillions of dollars into the economy with no oversight, made secret agreements with foreign banks and gover… Continue

While Unemployed

We should also work to help individuals use PM skills and techniques in their job searches. Last year, I found myself unemployed and without Medical insurance for the first time in 20 years. Rather than panic, I got organized. To help pay for ongoing expenses, I got a part time job selling Patio furniture in the evenings. I organized my mornings by applying for at least 5 jobs a day. My afte… Continue

What has happened to the PM Manifesto?

Given the revelations over AIG and BOTH the Bush and Obama Administrations mishandling of the economic problems, I think now more than ever we should be registering our outrage.

As most of you know, I am an action oriented person and this You Tube video has captured my attention and would urge you to consider doing the same, whether you are an American or not.

Regardless of how good we may be as project managers, unless we can push our elected offici… Continue
